Scale model of Träskända mansion

Scale models at weegee
The scale models at WeeGee, which hosts the Espoo Museum of Modern Arts and Espoo City Museum, just keep on fascinating me. This was the third time I visited WeeGee. The miniature worlds of a small finnish town around '50s, the Träskändä mansion of Espoo from 18th century and the medieval village are astounding in detail and quality.

I could spend hours watching the scenery and trying to build stories around the miniature people inhabiting these mini-worlds.

First ride of the season

This spring has been exceptionally warm. On Sunday afternoon, the temperature peaked at 16 degrees celcius. So, the obvious thing happened. I took the bike out and gave it a go. Just could not help myself. Lovely.

Chilly winds and alien cocoons

Grand day out in Seurasaari on Sunday, but the wind was freezing.Brhhh! When the sea froze, the water level was exceptionally high.

So. most of the rocks that are some 50 cm above the ice level are still covered by thick ice. Funny, as if there was something bulging below the water. And some were like from the movie Alien. Like this rock.

Finally, winter

Beautiful Sunday morning, -10 degrees celcius. The ice on the Espoonlahti Bay is strong enough for skating. Too bad that there's snow on the ice here and there. Hoping for brisky winds to blow the snow away...

First finnish Christmas in my life without snow

Now, what could I say. This Christmas was the first ever in my life when there was no snow at all in Finland. It even rained a bit on Christmas Day. How cruel is that? Unbelievable. Luckily Santa, being an authorized flight instructor, had a helicopter.

Visiting Fiskars II

Time for Christmas presents and a visit to Fiskars, the craft, design and art village in Pohja. I have never seen the river running so high.

Visiting Finnish Toy Museum

The WeeGee-building in Espoo is great. It hosts several museums: Espoo Museum of Modern Arts, Espoo City Museum, Finnish Museum of Horology... and Finnish Toy Museum.

Today I visited only the Toy Museum, with Akseli. It's a small room but filled with memories. The coolest piece was the miniature scale model of a imaginary (I think) rural town called Löylymäki. The details were just stunning. I'd love someday to build one. But do I have the time... or the patience :-)
